Sustainability Segment – World Reef Awareness Day

Welcome to TPP’s first Sustainability Segment! In accordance with my motto (Dress Well. Do Well. Be Well.), I would like to introduce you to Do Well. June 1st is World Reef Awareness Day. The ocean makes up about 70 percent of the Earth’s surface. Life under the ocean is precious. Coral reefs have experienced bleaching over recent decades. This is detrimental to the ecosystems that reefs are a part of. My family enjoys regularly visiting Ka’anapali, Maui. There is a beautiful reef along part of the coast line that is easily accessible to snorkel. Since my first visit when I was 12, I have noticeably seen the change to this reef. Bleaching has occurred and there are fewer fish. On this recent trip to Ka’anapali, I was intentionally mindful of what I could do to be a more sustainable visitor. I brought a Brita water filter pitcher to reduce use of plastic water bottles, a Hydro Flask water bottle to refill and use, and Raw Elements reef safe sunscreen. My goal with this Sustainability Segment is to bring specific awareness to coral reefs. I hope you learn more by visiting the links below and think of your own creative ways to take care of Mother Earth.
